Daily Prayer

At St. Mary’s, four traditional prayers are said throughout the day, helping pupils grow in faith and maintain a close relationship with God.

The day begins with the Morning Prayer, where pupils offer their day to God, asking for His guidance, wisdom, and strength in all they do.

Before lunch, pupils say a Grace Before Meals, a prayer of gratitude for the food they are about to receive and for those who provide it.

After lunch, they say Grace After Meals, thanking God for His blessings and nourishment.

Finally, the day ends with the End of Day Prayer, where children thank God for His love and protection, seeking His blessings as they go home.

These prayers create a meaningful rhythm of faith, encouraging pupils to turn to God throughout their daily lives.

In addition to these traditional prayers, KS2 pupils pause at 12 o’clock each day to pray the Angelus, a prayer that reflects on the Annunciation and Mary’s ‘yes’ to God. This prayer helps pupils deepen their understanding of Mary’s role in salvation and reminds them to be open to God’s will in their own lives.
The Diocese has set specific prayers for each year group to know by heart, ensuring that pupils develop a strong foundation in prayer as they progress through their faith journey.

These prayers are carefully planned into daily prayer time, RE lessons, teacher-led and child-led prayer sessions, allowing children to engage with them regularly and deepen their understanding. By learning these prayers, pupils not only strengthen their personal connection with God but also grow in their ability to participate in the wider Catholic community.

The prayers set by the Diocese, which are attached below, help to nurture a culture of prayer and reflection within the school, supporting pupils in their spiritual development.
