Building the Kingdom: Solidarity and the Common Good
At Saint Mary’s, we believe that we are all part of one human family, created and loved by God. Our Building the Kingdom theme for Summer Term—Solidarity and the Common Good—encourages our school community to recognise the responsibility we have towards one another, especially those in need. We are called to stand together in love, justice, and peace, ensuring that every person is valued and treated with dignity.
Spiritual Foundation
Our theme is deeply rooted in Scripture, reminding us of the call to love one another through both words and actions. As Romans 13:8-10 teaches:
"Living rightly means to love one another."
This message calls us to act with compassion, work for justice, and recognise that when we serve others, we are serving Christ himself.
Whole-School Virtues
For the first half of the summer term, we focus on the Jesuit virtues of Compassionate & Loving:
- Compassionate – We show care and kindness to those near and far, especially those who are less fortunate.
- Loving – We demonstrate our love through just actions and forgiving words, seeking to build a fairer and more united world.
These virtues encourage our pupils to look beyond themselves, to be mindful of others, and to take action to promote the common good.
Living Our Community Spirit
Our Solidarity and the Common Good theme encourages us to see the value of working together to build a better world. This term, we will:
- Support local and global charities, taking practical steps to stand in solidarity with those in need.
- Engage in environmental stewardship, learning how our choices impact communities across the world.
- Deepen our commitment to advocacy, using our voices to speak up for justice and fairness within our school, parish, and beyond.
