Autumn 2 2024

Building the Kingdom: Family and Community

At Saint Mary’s, we are committed to fostering a strong sense of belonging and unity. Our Building the Kingdom theme for Autumn Term—Family and Community—reflects our dedication to creating a loving and supportive environment, where every child feels valued, cherished, and a vital part of our school family.

Spiritual Foundation

Our theme is deeply rooted in Scripture, reminding us of our call to act with justice and compassion. As Jeremiah 7:5-7 teaches:

"If you act justly with one another, God will dwell in the land."

This powerful message guides our mission to build a school community where kindness, responsibility, and faith shape our choices and where we seek to bring God’s love to those around us.

Whole-School Virtues

For the second half of the autumn term, we are focusing on the Jesuit virtues of Intentional & Prophetic:

  • Intentional – We carefully plan our actions and choose to live as God calls us to, taking responsibility for our words and deeds.
  • Prophetic – We share God’s message through the way we live, using wisdom and discernment to inspire and guide others towards truth and justice.

These virtues encourage our pupils to think deeply about their decisions, stand up for what is right, and make a positive impact on their community.

Living Our Community Spirit

Our Family and Community theme continues to be something we live and experience together. This half-term, we will:

  • Honour Remembrance Day, reflecting on the sacrifices made by others and considering how we can promote peace and justice in our world.
  • Prepare for Advent, exploring themes of hope, service, and preparing our hearts for the coming of Christ.
  • Recognise those who ‘build God’s Kingdom’ in our school and wider community, encouraging pupils to appreciate the power of kindness, generosity, and leadership.
